Techniques applied in this task:
  • Vector Illustration with Environment:
    • Pen Tool (Bezier handles - smooth/ corner) - To draw the background composition and shapes for shadow and highlight
    • Scale Stroke & Effects - To maintain consistent lines and details
    • LivePaint Tool - Create LivePaint Group to fill in colour
    • Eyedropper Tool - To select colour
    • Gradient Tool - Apply gradient to the elements of the background composition
    • Gaussian Blur - To create the radiance for the lights shining
    • Texture(Grain) - To add on the texture of the background.
    • Rule of Third - Composition arrangement
  • Collectable Card Design:
    • Rectangle Tool - Create the frame of the card and name plate,
    • Pen Tool (Bezier handles - smooth/ corner) - To draw the details of the frame designs around the borders
    • Type Tool - Apply text
    • Gradient Tool - Apply gradient effect to text
    • Texture(Grain) - To add on the texture of the background.

3.0 REFLECTION

3.1 Experience

Creating the background composition was quite time-consuming due to the many detailed elements, but I’m pleased with the final result. I applied the Rule of Thirds technique taught by Mr. Fitri, which helped me achieve a more refined and visually balanced layout. I also really enjoyed designing the game card and exploring how to bring all the components together in a cohesive and engaging way.

3.2 Areas for Improvement

Upon reflection, I think the texture could be enhanced with more visual weight or distinctive styling to make it stand out more effectively. Additionally, the overall contrast of the card design feels a bit flat—key elements don’t stand out as much as they could. Improving the contrast and visual hierarchy would help make the design more dynamic and impactful.
