3.0 REFLECTION

Experience

Looking back on this semester, I did learn a lot and grew a lot. Through Task 1, I developed my skills in expressing ideas through text—not just pure text, but learning the design of text while also formatting it for clear communication. Task 2 taught me how to work with grids, layouts, and page flow. Brainstorming to create the poster using only words made me realize the beauty and creativity that can be achieved through typography alone. It helped me understand what makes typography effective and memorable with good reading rhythm. Task 3 was a mix of sweet and bitter; I often got confused by the angles, spacing, and consequences. This task really pushed me to be more focused and detail-oriented. I'm truly grateful for the experience and the opportunity to explore different aspects of design, which gave me a comprehensive grasp of typography and visual communication.

Observations

Comparing all my tasks, I observed significant improvement in many areas. I saw myself becoming more open to different designs and more willing to try out new ideas, experiment with layouts and styles, and refine them to achieve satisfying results. I wouldn’t say my designs were the best, but I was someone who kept trying, experimenting, and refining until I got what I wanted.

Findings

Typography is everywhere, yet its significance is often taken for granted. This module taught me that typography isn’t just about aesthetics—it plays a crucial role in communication and user experience. I’ve developed a new habit of noticing typefaces and pointing out orphans and widows in everyday design, which reflects how much more attuned I’ve become. I’m excited to carry this momentum into Advanced Typography and see how far I can push my design thinking.
