After the three proposals were submitted in Task 1 – Proposal, Mr Fitri gave us feedback suggesting that our group could conduct a field study for Topic 1 (Braille) and Task 3 (Shaded Sitting Area). Our group then discussed which topic to focus on for the field study, and after careful consideration, we chose Topic 3.
We conducted the field study on a random weekday in the afternoon, as this timing was more suitable for observing the park and assessing the needs for a shaded sitting area.
While visiting the park, we observed several rundown shaded areas, non-functional shaded spaces with no seating, and seats made from heat-absorbing materials. Many of these areas were poorly maintained and exhibited illogical design.
Our group decided to collect data by interviewing visitors at the park. During these interviews, we gathered insights that were not mentioned in Task 1. For example, some interviewees highlighted the need for more rubbish bins, the lack of shaded seating, and accessibility issues with electrical plugs. As designers of the shaded sitting area, we used all the feedback from visitors to inform modifications to our sketches.
